Cold Cream is the oldest formula in beauty and we had no business improving it, so we didn't: an emulsion of oils in wax that melts on contact with skin, lifts everything — including silicone-safe cleanser residue, oil, salt crust and a city — and rinses with water. Ours adds nothing scented and nothing active; the ingredient list is seven lines and one of them is water.
It earns its place in this catalogue because of Dusk Stone and Evening Pair: oil products create oil cleanups, and a balm is the honest way to do that. Massage it on dry skin, watch it turn to milk under the water, and the whole evening leaves without your face feeling like it lost an argument.
Why this piece exists
We named it Cold Cream because that is what it is: the nineteenth-century emulsion, made with our supplier's almond oil and beeswax and nothing modern enough to need a trademark. The only modern concession is the frosted jar, and that is functional — you can see how much is left, and the frost hides the oil film that clear glass would make you wash off twice a week.
It earns its catalogue slot as the cleanup for the oil products. Dusk Stone, Evening Pair and Recover Balm all leave a day that water alone will not lift, and every customer who wrote to ask 'what removes this' was using something harsher than the oil deserved. The answer is an emulsion older than the category, and the fact that it is also the gentlest thing in the chapter is not a coincidence — old formulas survived by being gentle.

Use and care

Use
On dry skin, a fingertip scoop, massaged in circles until the day loosens. Add water to emulsify, rinse. Follow with nothing if you like — the oil left behind is the point.
Not for
Hot-water-only households: the emulsion wants warm water, not hot, which strips.
Storage
Below 25 °C; the balm softens in a summer bathroom and firms in winter — texture change is normal, separation is not (write to us if it separates).
Long-term
The balm is stable for its whole life if kept below 25 °C; a summer bathroom will soften it and a winter one will firm it, and neither changes anything. Separation — oil pooling clear on top that will not stir back — is the one failure, and it means the emulsion broke in storage, not in use. Write to us; a separated batch is our batch, replaced without the journey back.
Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.
