The single most common story we hear about abandoned devices is the first ten seconds: silicone out of a drawer is cold, and cold is wrong. Ember fixes that one thing. A ceramic element in the tip warms to 39 degrees — one degree above body temperature, deliberately — in about three minutes, and holds it for the session.

The rest of the piece is deliberately ordinary: one button, five intensities, a broad rounded head. Ember is not a feature showcase; it is Velvet Hour's comfort setting, and the copper ring at the tip is the only visible hint that something different is inside.

Why this piece exists

Ember's warming element took fourteen months because everything in the industry that warms, overheats. USB hand warmers run at 45 degrees and call it gentle; we specified 39 — one degree above body — and the first three suppliers said it could not be felt. The fourth built a ceramic element with a spreader plate that warms the silicone evenly instead of a hot spot, and the difference is the product.

The copper ring is the element's edge, visible through the silicone because the silicone there is 1.5 mm thinner — deliberately, so the heat reaches the surface at the tip rather than pooling in the body. People ask if the ring is a design accent. It is a window, and we let them think it is both.

Who it suits

  • Anyone whose drawer-cold silicone has ended a session early
  • Cold-households and winter users — this is the piece for January
  • People who want one-button simplicity with one smart feature

Who it does not suit

  • Feather-sensitive users — 39 °C is warmth, but warmth is still a sensation to learn
  • Long-session users: warming costs ~25% battery, so plan around the charge

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Before the first use

Charge fully, then run the warming mode once through before washing — it burns off the factory dust in the element channel.

Cleaning

Standard silicone care: mild soap or cleanser, rinse, dry. The warming element is sealed; water in the tip channel drains through two pinholes — shake them clear.

Storage

Do not store with the warming mode latched on; the battery will drain flat in a week. One long press confirms it is off.

Long-term

The ceramic element has no filament to burn and no moving part to wear — its failure mode is the thermostat, which we rate for ten thousand cycles. What ages first is the battery, faster than our other pieces if you warm every session. The discipline: warm when it matters, skip it when skin is already warm, and run the battery to half every three months if the piece sits idle.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Is 39 degrees safe for long sessions?
Yes — it is one degree above body temperature, held by a thermostat that checks four times a second. Warm is the design; hot is a fault, and if it ever feels hot, stop and write to us.
Can I warm it and use it in the bath?
You can — IPX7 covers both — but the water will pull the heat out of the tip faster than the element replaces it. Warm is for air; baths are for the other pieces.
