Fern exists because some people want two different sensations at once and do not want to juggle two objects. The head motor is broad and low; the mid-shaft motor is smaller and sharper. They can run together or one at a time, and the rose-gold dial cross-fades between them rather than switching — you dial toward the sensation you want like tuning a radio.
The seed-pod bulges along the shaft are not decoration either: they are the two motor housings, and the silicone over each is 2 mm thinner so the vibration actually reaches the surface. It is the most engineered piece in the range and the least flashy to look at, which is the ratio we like.
Why this piece exists
Fern's dial was the last part to work and the first part people mention. Early prototypes had two buttons — head motor, shaft motor — and every tester pressed both and got a compromise. The cross-fade dial made the compromise a control: you can run 70% head and 30% shaft, which is a sentence no button layout can say.
The seed-pod bulges solve a real problem in dual-motor bodies: two housings usually mean two hard lumps. Ours are egg-shaped and the silicone over each is thinner by design, so the housing reads as a shape rather than a spot. The mould for those bulges cost more than the dial and we would pay it again.
Who it suits
- People who want two sensations at once without two objects
- Wand users who found one-motor wands one-note
- Control enthusiasts — the cross-fade is the finest control in the range
Who it does not suit
- Simplicity seekers — the dial rewards ten minutes of learning
- Very first pieces; start with a single motor and graduate

Use and care
Everything we know about keeping it.
Before the first use
Charge fully, then play with the dial dry for a minute to learn the cross-fade — it is smoother to understand in your hand than in a diagram.
Cleaning
The groove between the two housings holds residue; work cleanser into it with a fingertip rather than just rinsing over it.
Storage
Lay it flat or stand it on the flat tail. The dial is recessed but not recessed enough to survive a drawer of keys.
Long-term
The dial is the part that ages: its detents soften after a couple of thousand turns, which takes years, and the failure is graceful — the cross-fade gets slightly looser before it ever stops. The groove between the housings is the cleaning discipline; skip it and the residue bakes in over months. Battery: dual motors drain faster, so expect seventy to eighty cycles fewer than Velvet Hour from the same cell.
Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.
