Quiet is Nocturne's smaller sibling and the answer to a very specific request: 'the Nocturne, but pocketable'. At 74 mm and 62 g it disappears in a closed hand, and its damped motor measures 35 dB at the lowest setting — quieter than rustling paper, which our meter insisted on twice before we believed it.

The rose-gold dot is the only indicator: it breathes when charging and glows steady when running. There are two intensities. That is the entire control scheme, and after the first week nobody has ever asked us for a third.

Why this piece exists

Quiet's 35-decibel figure is the number we are most proud of and the least able to explain at parties. It came from a motor that our supplier sells to hearing-aid accessory makers, damped twice — once in the housing, once by the 62-gram body — and measured in an anechoic room with the microphone at a metre. The meter read 34.8. We printed 35 and celebrated quietly, which was on brand.

Two intensities was not a cost decision; it was a taste decision. Every extra intensity is a step between you and the setting you actually use, and Quiet's customers told us they use one. The rose-gold dot breathes when charging, which is the only time it draws attention to itself, on purpose.

Who it suits

  • Shared-wall households, thin doors, light sleepers
  • People who want a pocket piece that never announces itself
  • Nocturne owners who want the same discretion smaller

Who it does not suit

  • Intensity — two settings, both gentle; this is a whisper instrument
  • Broad-contact seekers: 22 mm is the narrowest in the range

Specification

Measured, not estimated.

Dimensions are nominal and may vary by up to 3 mm between batches. If a figure matters for a specific use, ask and we will measure the piece in stock.

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Before the first use

Charge it, wash it, and note that the rose-gold dot breathes while charging — a steady light means it is full and awake.

Cleaning

It is small enough to clean in one hand under a tap. The dot recess is the only crevice; a cotton bud sorts it.

Storage

It will get lost. That is not a joke: 62 grams of matte black disappears on a dark sheet. The felt pouch it ships in is loud-free but also loss-free — use it.

Long-term

The dot is the maintenance: its recess collects lint at drawer rate, and a monthly dry cotton bud keeps the indicator visible and the charging contact clean. The motor has no brushes to wear — it is the same class as hearing-aid drivers, rated beyond the battery's life. And the battery is the retirement clock: two hundred cycles is realistic at this size, which for most owners is two to three years of weekends.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Is 35 dB really quieter than a whisper?
A library whisper is about 40 dB at a metre. Quiet at its lowest setting is 35 — the measurement our own meter refused twice. Through a closed door, it is gone.
Why only two intensities?
Because its users told us they use one. Every setting is a decision, and the piece is named after the absence of decisions.
