Tide is the broad piece for people who found Velvet Hour too simple: the same matte body, but with three low undulations along its top, so contact changes as it moves. The wave is shallow — 4 mm, felt rather than seen — and the effect is a rhythm that comes from the object rather than the motor.

It joined the catalogue alongside Sonnet this season and will fold into Personal devices after the winter. The three-crest shape is moulded in one piece like everything else in the range, and the mould is the most expensive thing we have ever commissioned, which is the kind of sentence that ends arguments about whether to keep it in the line.

Why this piece exists

Tide is Velvet Hour's second draft: the same matte body with three low undulations along the top, so contact changes as the piece moves. The wave is 4 millimetres — felt rather than seen — and the effect is rhythm from geometry rather than from the motor, which is the quietest way to make a product feel alive.

The mould is the most expensive thing we have ever commissioned, and that sentence ends the internal argument about whether Tide stays in the line. It joined this season alongside Sonnet and folds into Personal devices after the winter; the wave is a shape you either understand in the first session or never will, and the returns data will tell us which with more honesty than any focus group.

Who it suits

  • Velvet Hour owners who want the same brief with more to feel
  • Movement-first users — the wave needs travel to read
  • Second-piece buyers completing the broad end of the range

Who it does not suit

  • Stillness-first users — a wave held still is a bumpy straight line
  • Slim-preference households: 36 mm is the broad end

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Before the first use

Full charge, wash, and use it moving rather than still — the wave's rhythm needs travel to read, and stillness flattens it.

Cleaning

The crests hold residue in their valleys: cleanser, a fingertip along the wave, then rinse. Dry crest-up.

Storage

Lies flat or stands on its tail. Do not stack anything on the wave — a 4 mm relief takes a set under weight over months.

Long-term

The wave's valleys are the cleaning discipline — cleanser and a fingertip along the crest line, then rinse, then dry crest-up. Storage is flat or tail-standing; do not stack anything on the wave, because a 4 mm relief takes a set under weight over months and the rhythm is the product. Battery and silicone age on the standard clocks, and the mould will outlive every battery in the house.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Does the wave work with lubricant?
Yes — with Silk Ritual the crests read more smoothly and the rhythm survives the slip. Without lubricant the wave is more texture than motion; both are valid sessions, and the difference is the point of owning a wave.
Why not deeper waves?
At 4 mm the wave is a rhythm; at 8 mm it is a ridge, and ridges are a different product with a different safety conversation. Four millimetres is the depth that stays kind and still reads.
