Vesper is named for the hour and shaped like the tool: a long taper to a fine, flexible silicone nib, finished like a pen rather than a device. It is the most precise piece we make and the least forgiving — the nib concentrates everything to a point, and there is no broad mode to fall back on.

We built it because a small number of customers asked for 'Aurelia, but even more so', and the honest answer was that Aurelia could not go further without becoming a different object. So it is a different object: a writer's tool for a reader's hour, and the nib flexes slightly under pressure, which changes the contact area the way a nib's tines do.

Why this piece exists

Vesper is the fountain pen of the range: a long taper to a fine flexible nib, finished like an instrument rather than a device. It is the most precise piece we make and the least forgiving — the nib concentrates everything to a point, there is no broad mode to fall back on, and the people who asked for it (a small, certain group) asked for exactly that.

The nib flexes. Under pressure the silicone tines open the contact area the way a nib's tines spread ink, which means pressure is a control, not just grip. That mechanic took the longest to tune: too soft and the tip folds, too firm and it is just a point. The production nib flexes a millimetre at working pressure, and that millimetre is the product.

Who it suits

  • Precision users who already know where they are aiming
  • Fountain-pen people — the analogy is the design brief
  • Aurelia owners who asked for 'even more so'

Who it does not suit

  • First pieces; the nib has no fallback setting
  • Broad-contact seekers, and anyone who stores things loose — the nib is the point and the point is fragile

Use and care

Everything we know about keeping it.

Before the first use

Charge and try the nib's flex dry first — pressure changes the contact area more than the intensity dial does, and the two work together.

Cleaning

The nib is the crevice: cleanser and a light fingertip, never a cloth dragged across the point. IPX6, so a rinse under the tap, not a soak.

Storage

Cap-style sleeve ships with it; store nib-up like a fountain pen so the point never takes a set against a surface.

Long-term

The nib is the lifetime of the piece and the discipline is storage: cap-style sleeve, nib-up, never resting on the point. A nib that takes a set against a nightstand keeps a lean that no amount of warming coaxes out — silicone has memory where it matters. Cleaning is a fingertip along the taper with cleanser, never a cloth dragged across the point. Battery standard; the nib will outlast it twice.

Material safety. Platinum-cured silicone, phthalate-free, non-porous. Clean with warm water and mild unscented soap or a silicone-safe cleanser; avoid alcohol and silicone-based lubricants, which dull a matte finish and can leave a film. Full detail in the materials guide.

About this piece

Is the nib safe for beginners?
It is not aimed at them — the precision is the feature and the learning curve is the cost. Start with the beginner's guide, buy a broad piece, and let Vesper be the second or third purchase.
How does the flex work?
Pressure opens the silicone tines fractionally, widening contact — the same mechanic as a nib spreading ink. Light pressure is a point; resting weight is a slightly broader point. It is analogue control, and it is the reason the piece exists.
